Finally! I've been meaning to start Cassandra Clare's urban-paranormal series The Mortal Instruments, for ever! This weekend I took home the first in the series, City of Bone, and it was fantastic! Don't be put off by the fairly large size of the book; I breezed through it and enjoyed this inventive story about 15-year old Clary Fray and how she learns of her involvement in the world of Shadowhunters.
Set in New York City, this book is for teens who want to become engrossed in another "big" series. A New York Times Bestselling series, it is also being made into a movie!
Highly recommended for late middle school-high school.

Just in time for the New Year, I thought I'd offer a few of the newer or newish books that I've got on my desk right now and am working on reading/can't wait to read or am trying to get my hands on!
Death Comes to Pemberley by P.D. James: An "Adult" book that is really for any Jane Austen fan of any age is a fantastic murder mystery that tells us how the characters from Pride and Prejudice are doing a few years later, amidst the backdrop of a sudden murder on the Darcy property! Half-way through this one and only the holidays have stopped me from finishing it off sooner!
Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children by Ransom Riggs: I've got to read this New York Times Bestseller, but it is so popular, it is always checked out! That, and a glimpse of the odd cover, are all the sell you need! (Go ahead and Google the cover now!) Maybe in 2012 I'll get it back!
Daughter of Smoke and Bone by Laini Taylor: Laini Taylor is a popular new YA writer and is following up her Lips Touch Three Times collection...
